Market Research
What are you doing in the area of Market Research? You know just what I
mean if you just take a moment to stop and think about it. How many
times have you gone to your favorite store in the mall or just to the
local grocery store and there is a group of people out front getting
your answers to a few short questions as a survey study? Or maybe
it’s the store itself and they have an employee just inside
the door, who asks you if you would mind taking just a few minutes to
fill out a short survey so the store can better serve your needs and
desires. We as Internet Marketers can do the very same thing to make
those needed improvements in our website and business.
On your website you should have a
section where your readers and customers can opt-in to receive special
e-mail notices from you. Your newsletter subscribers should have also
agreed to get special mailings from you. If both of these lists do
indeed have this type of opt-in agreement with you then by all means
put together a short survey and send it to everyone on both lists. If
they have not agreed to receive such mailings you can always post the
survey on your website and in your weekly newsletter. These surveys can
be used to be sure that your customers are satisfied with your
products, services, and website. Or if they feel you need to make some
changes to please them more.
You will be surprised the kind of
information about your customers and readers that you will learn that
you may otherwise had no idea. You will even learn things about your
business that you never realized was there. You may find out that
customers that regularly buy your main offer or product or service do
so just for the free bonus that you give them. You could also find out
what level of income that most of your customers are in. This type of
information will enable you to improve your website, products/services,
advertising, and marketing to more efficiently reach the proper
targeted group that visit and buy from your website.
The most popular type of surveys used by online
businesses come down to mainly just three. Though you may have others
in mind these three should be able to help you greatly. Let’s
take a look at these three now;
Demographic Surveys: This survey
is used to get
your readers/customers to let you know their gender, age, income range,
occupation, marital status, and general location,(country/state).
Website Feedback Survey:
with this one
you will want to ask questions such as; How did you find our site? What
did you like or dislike about our site? Did you find the information or
product that you were looking for? If you made a purchase did you find
our processing system customer friendly? Were you able to navigate
through our site quickly and with ease?
Customer Satisfaction Survey:
This may prove to be
the MOST IMPORTANT survey you will ever use. If your customers are not
totally satisfied they will tell everyone they know and before long you
will wonder why you have no visitors or customers and why your business
is now failing. Here you will want to ask about ; How satisfied are you
with our customer service? What did you like or dislike about our
product/service? Did you feel that our purchase method was safe and
secure? What changes would you like to see us make to better serve you
and increase your satisfaction with our website, products/service, and
purchasing system?
Many times you will find that you need
to inspire your readers/customers to fill out a survey. Make it fun and
get creative. You may give a free gift, whether it’s an
actual product that you sell or an e-book, free report related to your
website subject matter, or your free weekly newsletter if they are not
already on that list. You could also hold a free contest or sweepstakes
with the only requirement being that they fill out your survey before
they can enter.
If you are just starting out in the Internet
Marketing business and you do not yet have an e-mail list or newsletter
list to send your survey to don’t worry. You can still use
this valuable marketing tool by, posting your survey on appropriate
newsgroups, forums, and e-mail discussion lists. You could also upload
survey software to your website or use a free survey service on the
internet. To find such services just type in the keyword
“survey” in the search engine of your choice. Like
I said have fun with this and make it fun for your readers/customers
and you will be absolutely surprised at the very valuable information
you could end up with.
